The Jostedal Glacier, "Jostedalsbreen", the largest glacier on the European mainland, is only a 30-minute drive from Tørvis Hotel.

At 500 square kilometers, Jostedal Glacier covers mountain tops and deep valleys of the national park, stretching its mighty branches of blue ice into the lush valleys along our fjords. People are amazed to find that many of the branches are easy to reach, and the temperature on the ice can be almost as warm as the temperature beside the fjord.

The Nigard Glacier Nature Reserve is a must for visitors to Luster. The glacier is enormous and majestic, offering an experience you will not forget. A walk along the nature trail from Breheim Visitor's Center to Nigard Glacier takes about one hour. You will walk through morainic landscape, proof of the powerful forces of nature. You will need to hike for 30 more minutes along rougher terrain if you wish to reach the glacier itself. Another alternative is to purchase a ticket to ride the Jostedalsrypa shuttle boat for a fresh-air boat trip in ice-cold glacial waters..

Family hikes are also arranged at Nigardsbreen in Jostedalen all summer long. Visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum and the Breheim Visitor's Center to learn more about Jostedalsbreen National Park.
